Arts Background & Creative Approach

Experienced support worker for people with disabilities
Initially from a working-class, young-carer background in Manchester, I came to Cambridge to study following a year at art school. After graduation, I worked at CUH Arts helping to “humanize healthcare” at Addenbrooke’s via live and participatory arts and exhibitions.
However, undiagnosed with neurodiversity and trauma, I found the hospital environment was not conducive to my health and wellbeing. Often working in a basement where I struggled to see the light of day in winter, I realised how much being outdoors was essential for me to thrive. I loved the clear social purpose of my role and interacting with the community, but it was in my garden that I was happiest.
After treatment and diagnosis, I switched my career and started a role as a Horticultural Support Worker at Darwin Nurseries (part of CPFT, the local mental health trust), caring for people, plants and planet. Since then I have worked with several charities and community groups.
At my most recent role as a gardener of one of the colleges, I (once again) found the town and gown divide and associated inequality (at best) unsettling and (at worst) infuriating. I have started this business so that I can do what I love for the local community, improving equal access to outdoor spaces, without having to battle for basic reasonable adjustments!
